Nuad Thai - นวดไทย

In ancient Thai peasant society, labouring in the fields and on the farms was back-breaking work. In those days, every village had a "massage healer" who would help to ease the muscular aches and pains of the villagers.

This traditional form of massage is called "Nuad Thai" (นวดไทย) which literally translates to "Thai massage".

Nuad Thai is a technique that combines acupressure, Indian Ayurvedic principles, and some assisted yoga postures. Over time, it has evolved to become part of the art, science and culture of traditional Thai healthcare. Now it is recognised by UNESCO as part of humanity's intangible cultural heritage.
